The Jedi Master

They wanted him to look really wise.  So they modeled him on Albert Einstein.  Okay.  I see it, LOL.

Yoda quotes I like:

"No! Try not! Do or do not, there is no try."

"Wars not make one great."

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

I hope you have enjoyed this look at some of the Star Wars costumes.  Thanks for visiting.  Here is a video for you.  Have faith.

Rebel Alliance Starfighters

Anyone who has watched the very first Star Wars movie from 1977 can hardly forget those scenes with the fighter pilots in their X-wing crafts fending off the Empire's TIE fighters.

So imagine my surprise when I am watching Rogue One, released in 2016, and I see fighter pilots from Star Wars: A New Hope released in 1977.  I'm like "wow, these guys aged really well".

Turns out they used unused footage from the original movie.  I was quite proud that I noticed that since my son did not.

And to all our servicemen, whether in the air or on land or sea, thank you for your service.  Have a great Memorial Day.

Padme's Journey

The dress? on the left was worn for the first kiss between Padme and her future husband.   The designer was going for a dress that looked like it would fall off if one sneezed.  Heck, if I was kissing Anakin Skywalker I more than likely would vomit let alone sneeze.  But that is just me.  Han Solo would be an entirely different issue.

Appropriate attire for the Met Gala held on Naboo

Yes, this is her nightgown and robe.  I dress the same for bed, LOL.

This must have been from her failed attempt at a career in hip-hop

And yes, some of us make really bad choices in men.  Like marrying the future Darth Vader.

I apologize to you and myself for not taking pics of all the descriptions.  My memory is not what it used to be for useless trivia.

Going to the Dark Side

Anakin Skywalker, AKA Darth Vader.  This exhibit came complete with the 14 steps needed to get Darth into his costume.  It all seems quite painful if you ask me.

Stormtroopers.  Clones.  Is this our future???

Inspiration for the center costume came from 'Fahrenheit 451.'  Love the boots.

The Galactic Senate

This is an outfit I could truly enjoy wearing.

Darth Sidious (Palpatine)

There was only one costume I did not take a picture of but in hindsight I wish I had.  I am not sure who the character was supposed to be, but it looked like they placed a push-broom on his head, put a colander over his face and threw a tablecloth on him.  It was pretty funny now that I think of it.  I may truly have to go back and capture it in a pic.

Princess Leia and Friends

Carrie Fisher hated this outfit and the treatment of her character.  I am sure it appealed to every fat slob in the universe that he too could get a 'hot date' ala Jabba the Hutt.  She supposedly told the actress portraying Rey to stand her ground and not let herself be turned into a sex symbol.  My boys only comment was on how small she was as evidenced by her costumes.
Here she in in fighting attire.
Leia's future husband and household pet, Han Solo and Chewbacca.  Chewy was idolized by these characters, the Ewoks, who appear in The Return of the Jedi, Episode VI, 1983.

Two at a Time

Below are some Star Wars characters and the movies in which they first appeared.

Rey, The Force Awakens, 2015 and Finn, same movie
Jango Fett, bounty hunter, Episode II, 2002.  Boba Fett -  Episode V, 1980
Tusken Raiders of Tatooine.  First appear in Episode IV, 1977 - I guess I was just not paying enough attention to realize that this was a woman and a man.  Well. it is not like I can see her face is it?  Maybe I should have noticed the purse.

Droids

R2-D2, BB-8, C-3PO - Ya gotta love the droids.

Originally they wanted R2-D2 to roll like BB-8, but the technology wasn't there in 1977.

"Droids, take me to your leader.  No, YOUR leader.  Our leader is an idiot."

Dressing Like a Queen and Her Court on Naboo

My thought looking at most of these gowns was "How did they survive under the lights?'

I loved that the designer was unsatisfied with this gown, crumpled up the paper, realized he had to show George Lucas something, uncrumpled the paper, and the idea of the crumpled material was born.

I'd even settle for one of the simple handmaiden gowns.  Not sure how I would get anything done, but they sure look good.

May the Force be with You Two

The Emperor Palpatine - from your worst nightmare, lol
Light sabers of Obi Wan Kenobi and the Emperor.
Another view of the light saber battle.  Yeah, Charlie and I both want a lightsaber.

May the Force be With You

I went to the DIA today to see the Star Wars Costume Exhibit.  It was a family affair.  The exhibit is there until September 30 and if you have time this summer and are a Star Wars or fashion fan, I highly recommend it.  I hope to be able to go back and view it again.

Not wanting to overwhelm you with all of my photos I will just post a few at a time.  For starters:
Obi Wan Kenobi and Queen Amidala
I was just agog throughout the exhibit at the quality and intricacy of these fashions.  It seems hard to believe that the franchise has only won one Oscar for Best Costume.  I'll post the photos in the order they were taken and hope you enjoy them.

The Force is Coming

For those of you anxiously awaiting the opening of the new Star Wars movie tomorrow, here is what I am watching:

This Grammy is baby-sitting tomorrow so my kids can go to the movies.
