Platinum Blond

I think I have had every color hair imaginable - black, dark brown, red, really red, ash brown, ash blond, streaked and yes, even platinum blond.

The black was a disaster and did not last long at all, just a couple of weeks.  I only had it streaked once.  The process in the 'old' days was long and uncomfortable.  The platinum blond lasted about one year until the constant touch-ups got to be too much of an ordeal, not to mention the expense.

Since I was 18 years old, thee has only been one short period of time when I have not colored my hair.  It was in the mid-70's and I was in my late 20's.  I decided to let my hair go back to its natural dish-water blond.

On Easter Sunday that year I opened the front door to greet my parents for dinner.  My father took one look at me and said, "What the h--- did you do to your hair?"

I told him I had done nothing, that this was the natural color.  He told me it was awful and to do something with it.  End of all things natural.

I do not often show up in pictures since I am usually the one behind the camera.  Going through all of my old photos and slides, I can only find one picture of me with platinum blond hair.  It was taken in January, 1970 at Niagara Falls.  I and two friends had driven to Toronto to see the musical 'Hair'.  This was a side-trip on the way home.

The color faded so I am printing it in black and white.  If my hair ever turns completely gray, this is what I will look like, I guess.

  1. The most I've ever done to my hair is add red streaks once. I should be more adventurous! I just happen to like my natural color which I guess is okay :)

    1. If I had your beautiful blond, I'd be a blond too.

  2. I used to be blonde for a long time until about 36 years ago when I was swimming a lot in summer and skiing wearing woolly hats in winter, all of which showed partings a lot so I got fed up with it and went back to natural, been that way ever since. Had a reddish period in my 20s too. Now I am getting pretty grey.

  3. I totally relate to not being in photos as I am the photographer. However now that I am immersed in doing family history, I make a point of getting someone else to take photos so future generations will see what I look like!

By the way, I have never coloured my hair and now I am naturally going gray.
