May 31, 1969 Arenal, Majorca

Well, if you come to the Mediterranean Sea, you might as well swim in the Mediterranean Sea.  See yesterday's photo.

The water is cool but comfortable.  I am working on my tan, something I will rarely do when I get home.  As I said, I am not a beach person or a sun worshipper, though I will spend many years as a boater.

Anyway, the sun eventually disappeared and we went back to the room for the afternoon.  From the way the diary entry is written, I am guessing we went back to Barcelona on the boat this evening.  While my diary makes no mention of it, I do remember well an incident that happened on that return trip.

When Shar and I were planning our trip, our friends who had previously gone had suggested that we each pack a few rolls of toilet paper cause we were going to need it.  Believe it when I tell you that I still have, in my diary, three pieces of European toilet paper that are rather unbelievable.  I can understand why grape leaves may be a better option.

Anyway, on the boat back to Spain I asked Shar if she remembered to grab the roll of toilet paper out of the hotel bathroom and she said she thought I had taken it.  OMG.  It was a half of a roll we left behind.  I am guessing that hotel maid must have been in seventh heaven when she found it.  Good old American Charmin tissue, LOL.

My expenses today are $12.84.

May 30, 1969 Palma de Majorca

We arrived this morning by boat in Palma de Majorca, Playa de Arenal in the Balearic Islands.

We are here for some R & R, which everyone needs on vacations like this one.  We spent the entire day on the terrace by the pool at the Hotel Boreal.  This hotel seems to  no longer be there.  A hotel by the same name but on a different street opened in 1970.

Our expenses for yesterday and today total $25.16.  I am guessing that included yesterday's trip to Montserrat, food, and today's hotel.

I just remembered that when we were in Torremolinos I purchased a beach towel.  Up until a few years ago, I still had it.  I do not know what they use for dyes in Spain, but the color never faded.  Amazing!
