Speaking of Turkeys

Okay.  I am not talking about politics here.  I am talking about real turkeys.  On my way home from the grocery store this morning I saw this flock of turkeys on the next street.  I couldn't resist grabbing my phone and getting some pics.  While I have seen turkeys in the neighborhood before, this is the first time I have seen a family, so to speak.

  2. It is quite remarkable the extent to which Wild Turkeys have adapted to suburbia. I have friends who see them daily as they feed on the seed spilled from their bird feeders,

    1. There are a lot around here. More so than when I moved here nearly 50 years ago.

  3. Hi Denise - they are extraordinary aren't they ... there was a film about 9 years ago ... about a guy raising his turkey flock ... he spent a year with them ... imprinted into the flock to make sure they survived. What fun to see them out and about ... take care - Hilary

  4. We do them around here occasionally (Rhode Island) because we back up to woods. I hear they can be ornery. You got a great close-up there, Denise!

    1. Yes, they were loud and looked ornery which is why I stayed in my car.

  5. We have a flock of 5 turkeys that walk around our community. I always count them when I see them to be sure that one of them didn't become someone's dinner! I am in awe of how big they are!!

  6. Wild turkeys are wonderful creatures. I first encountered them about 20 years ago by a lake in Eastern Kentucky. I had grown up with the Thanksgiving image of what turkeys were. That day enlightened me. What proud creatures they are!

  7. The wild turkeys just about took over my late mother in law's back yard in suburban New York City. And, speaking of the Pine Dell mall...I wonder if it is still in business, lol. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. I suppose this flock of turkeys is better than the 50 or so Canadian geese I saw on the golf course across the road. Goose poop everywhere. Ugh.

  8. No wild turkeys here - yet! Lots of pheasants though!

    1. I have seen pheasants occasionally too. More so when I moved here in 1972 and this was still a lot of farmland. Even had a riding stable down the road and a beekeeper up on the corner.
