Day Care Centers

Okay.  I did not have Charlie last week because they were on vacation.  I figured Momma deer thought I was lonesome and dropped off her child for sitting.  Now I think the deer must have decided that we are running a day care franchise.  My son lives two miles away and just sent this picture.

Too bad if the kids want to use their playhouse.

  1. That is so adorable!! Honestly, I think those both pictures might go viral if put on the right social media (yours from last week and this one). Think it is the same deer?

    1. It could possibly be the same deer. Supposedly they travel a circle of about a mile in all directions. This would be a little far afield, but who knows.

  2. It looks really at home in there! How lovely.

  3. They know that you wouldn't hurt their babies even if you don't like the adults visiting your garden. They are so cute. I can't imagine any predator realising the baby was in that bright orange hideaway

  4. Oh deer. Your family being stalked by deer. This really is meant for social media. But I was also thinking, with deer ticks, and the threat of Lyme Disease (a real hazard where I lie in upstate New York - I know several people who have gotten it and it can be far from benign) I wonder if that playhouse should undergo some kind of treatment before your grands use it again. I hope it's OK.

    1. Our county finally has admitted to having cases of deer ticks. For years when I would complain they said 'None Hare'. Back in the 90's the husband of one of my employees had it and it took forever to get the right diagnosis. And just before I retired, a good friend contracted it and it nearly did him in. I think the toys are okay. It's the grass we need to worry about. My kids also live on an open area like I do and the deer make it their home.

  5. Is it only long grass that's a problem for ticks, or short grass as well? We have no deer in this area, but I still wonder about ticks. It seems like the lyme disease problem has been getting much worse. Does it come down to deer overpopulation?

    1. The ticks seem to get onto anything. PBS had a really good show about the problem awhile back. That little fawn was alone in the neighbors yard and now we are wondering if the mother has been killed by a car. I have seen three dead does just this spring. Too many deer in populated areas, and only a few communities are dealing with it. Now some does are having triplets! That is why we are seeing the increase in Lyme disease.
