You can find many photos here.
I remember it being absolutely beautiful. Then we were off to Chateau Fontainebleau.

There are lovely photos online but many of them require the posting of the entire license.
I also went to the Barbizon where I purchased an oil painting at the school. This painting hangs in my home to this day.
You remember well. Versailles is a beautiful 'must see' location and castle.
ReplyDeleteThe oil painting is a good, smart buy, something one can enjoy forever.
And I do enjoy it, every day.
DeleteBeautiful painting! Did they ship it home for you?

No, I lugged that painting all over Europe, lol. Luckily it is only 12" x 16" and was unframed.
DeleteI bet you have a real treasure with that painting! $50 was a lot back then.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot. And since I have little info from the web about that painter, I am guessing it is still worth $50. But I love it and it brings back lots of memories.
DeleteWhen I went to Versailles, they were doing a Son et Lumiere presentation, in French of course, and I didn't understand a lot of it, but the attack on the palace was unmistakable and pretty scary to listen to. My favourite place to visit was Malmaison. For a lot of the other places, there was nothing much in the way of furnishings (or when I went there anyway) and I found it less interesting.
ReplyDeleteI do remember their not being much furniture, but I still remember the wallpaper.
DeleteIn 1966, my parents and I attended a family wedding in Versailles and of course, visited the Palais, as well. Such a beautiful spot. ♥ I love your painting!
ReplyDeleteA wedding at Versailles. How cool!
DeleteI loved Versailles and we were there to see the fountains and it was great to walk around the gardens and see part of the palace. My favourite were gardens where Marie Antoinette would dress up as a shepherdess...I forget the name..dang!
