Flashback Friday Blogfest - January, 2010

Today I am joining the Flashback Friday blogfest, hosted by Michael D'Agostino over at My Life Examined.  He asks the question 'How Long Have You Been Blogging?'.  Update:  This was actually the question in May.  Ooops.  Here is the current link.

The following post was my sixth blog post on January 6, 2010.  It was read by exactly one brave soul. Thank you, whoever you were.

I must say that not much has changed in my reasons for blogging, though lately I am into just pasting lots of photos on my pages.  Here goes:

Blogging for Dollars - NOT!

OK.  Let's face it.  No one is going to write a book or make a movie about this blog.

This past week I watched "Julie and Julia"  based on a blog about cooking all the recipes in Julia Child's first cookbook.  None of us would realistically do this, would we?  There are 50 pages on sauces alone.  I cook a lot and have even taken classes at Schoolcraft College on sauces, but no way would I make all 50 pages of sauces in one year.

Yesterday, there was an article on the web about a woman who lived a year of her life following everything Oprah said to do.  Now I have only watched Oprah's show once.  I was on vacation and my travelling companion insisted on watching the show with Sarah Jessica Parker launching her new line of clothing.  (I've never seen 'Sex and the City' either).  This woman blogged about 'living la vida Oprah' and turned it into a book.  I say, 'Who Cares?'

Today another article on the net is about a woman who spent a year blogging about her search for a husband.  Well, thinking about some of the losers I've met since I have been single, her blog might have some humorous stuff in it.

The point being, I started this for myself and to put my thoughts down.  If friends or acquaintances find something interesting, so be it.  If they say 'who cares', that is OK too.  But don't look for me to be on Oprah's couch anytime in 2011.

OK.  So, if you are interested in joining, just sign up below.  And thanks to the Doglady's Den for alerting me to this.

  1. I loved the movie Julie & Julia! With the exception of a few Amazon links, I don't monetize our blog either. It seems like way too much work for not much reward and I'd rather focus on blogging for the fun of it, not to make money.

    Cheers - Ellen

  2. My blog doesn't have enough continuity or a common theme to make for an appropriate book. I've sometimes thought it might be cool to blog a book, but I guess I'd rather just write a book and then write a blog post or two about it. I'm a rather meandering aimless blogger though my original intent wasn't as such. Sometimes blogging just happens.

    1. I've sometimes thought I should pick a subject and stick with it, but that is not who I am in the real world, so my blog world is no different.

  3. Your blog post back then is how I feel today. I only blog for me! If people come and read it then I'm happy. If not, then I'm still happy!! I have ever seen a single episode of Sex and the City either. And nothing Oprah says is of any interest to me. I used to be a fan until she became to "holier-than-thou". Have a great weekend Denise. I like this blog hop!!

  4. Yeah - Sex and the City? No. Oprah, no... takes up too much time from blogging!

  5. I know some people say they can make money through blogging, but I don't think I want to make money that way. I like to blog for the fun of it plus how you can learn about so many different people and different parts of the country/world. Its hard to imagine I did my first blog back in 2005 but have taken breaks here and there. Time flies!

    1. Wow 2005. I kept various websites for about ten years before I retired. Then a friend suggested I blog.

  6. I have seen Julie and Julia which was quite good. I would never be that religious in following Oprah or anyone else. I like to follow my own path not someone else's. Congrats to you in keeping your blog going so we could find it and enjoy reading it.

  7. I totally missed the question for this month's post, about how long you've been blogging. Oops. Guess I'll have to go answer it in a comment :D

    I like your attitude.

    1. That is because the link I followed was actually from May, 2016. Oops. I just copied it from someone else without checking the date. Sorry.

  8. Thanks for joining us. I've blogged a book before but it was only a 40 day challenge and a companion piece to another book. I can't imagine blogging some of the things people do; I certainly can't imagine reading some of them either. Then all that gets turned into a book I can't imagine reading either. I will admit though, I like the Julie & Julia movie.

    1. I did like the movie, too. Just can't imagine actually cooking all of Julia's foods. And finding time to blog about it.

  9. Welcome to #FlashbackFriday, Denise. "Julia and Julia" was an enjoyable movie. When it comes to Oprah and "Sex in the City", I'm also part of the "who cares?" crowd. :) Blogging for money is tough and I feel that creativity suffers, plus I would hate to be restricted to a specific niche. There are some ads on my blog but the income is miniscule and has yet to pay out. The only reason I do it, is to try to offset some expenses of having a self-hosted website. Doesn't really matter in the long run, as I love blogging. ☺ There's a lot of material on there that I do want to publish at some point; various memoirs and dog stories, just for the experience. If they generate income, great! If not, that's okay too. Have a good weekend.

    1. Thanks for the 'heads up'. One of the bloggers I follow did a wonderful series for the A to Z Challenge a few years ago that I thought would be a good book.

  10. I thought I could make money blogging which is why I started. I began to then Adsense dropped me like a hot brick with no explanation. However, I am still here. As you know, I don't have a theme as such, but I like to post recipes many of which are now part of my own repertoire. I too do it mainly for personal satisfaction although I am always delighted to get comments and followers. Oh, and I enjoyed the movie. Oprah, Sex and the City? What's that?

    1. I used to follow a blogger from England who was being harassed by what she called the Google police over her ads. She eventually dropped her blog.

  11. I started blogging when I was single in my 30s--it was during the "chick lit" heyday, where Sex and the City was popular and every movie was based on a Sex and the City-like book. My blog became really popular on MySpace, but I got a TON of flak for what I wrote. It did help me build my confidence as a writer and now my day job is blogging, only it's for businesses that pay me to write about not-so-exciting topics like, "How to Move Your Server Room" or "How to Market Your Business on Social Media."

    1. Oh, I would love to write a political blog but would also get a ton of flak and do not need to deal with that at this point in my life.
