Since I blogged about my love of reading, I thought I might share this link I found on the Cynical Sailor's website. The test of your reading pace does not take long.
I discovered that I am faster than 83% of readers. That explains a lot of what I am doing in my spare time. Did I say I love to read?
I did miss one of the questions they asked after I read the text. Then again, I didn't know there was going to be a quiz. I do tend to skip over a lot of the details in books. My apologies to the authors, but there is often material that I feel is not necessary to the story. It's like movies that feel they have to have a love scene, even when it adds nothing to the storyline.
Anyway, the test is short and you might discover something interesting. Like the fact that I could read War and Peace in 21 hours.
OK will go take the test. I loved War and Peace, every word.
ReplyDeleteTurns out I am 3% slower than average but then the text was difficult to get hold of, I thought. I want to know what was in that pit now too. Would take me more than 40 hours for War and Peace LOL.
DeleteI never read War and Peace. But having been a science and math major in HS and college, I did not take any literature classes. And most of what I was reading for pleasure was not classic literature.
DeleteI got 65% and I could read War and Peace in 23 hours and 45 minutes (haven't ever read it, LOL). I do tend to skim over things when I'm reading, but I read this for content and context since you said there would be a quiz afterwards, LOL. This was fun tod o.

Love the fast forward on the TV remote. In books I have to skim until I find something worth reading.
DeleteYou surprise me Denise. When I was a young woman someone told me to skip the first 100 pages because it was all introducing people and then to go back when I was into the story. I didn't do that and have actually read the book a couple of times, it is a great story.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out Denise! Glad you enjoyed the reading test :-_
ReplyDeleteNice test. I was at 64% and I answered all three questions correctly! I don't do much in the way of skim reading. Unless I am just not that into the book but want to finish it. It is hard for me to not complete a book once I have started it. They said I could read War and Peace in 24 hours. LOL! No way. But then I have no plans to read it at all!!
ReplyDeleteEven when I was in Russia and our guide was going on about great Russians and mentioned the book, I still had no interest. There are some free Kindle downloads, so I might give it a try. I missed the question about how many folks were on the crowd. Would that really be important to remember?
DeleteI am 1% slower than average and got 2 questions right. It would take me over 39 hours to read War and Peace. I look at it this way....I love to read and I don't care if I am slow or fast, I am just happy to red and love books
ReplyDeleteI think my speed really depends on what I am reading. I am pretty sure it would take me much longer to read War and Peace, but I could read a Harry Potter book in a day.
