Though sometimes the 'Golden Years' seem more like tarnished brass, they are not the end of adventure. I invite you to follow me as I enjoy my days as a full-time life observer. I'll cover life, travel, food, gardening, whatever crosses my path.
I have only ever eaten white asparagus once and was not enamoured. €3.50 is expensive though isn't it? Oh, I just noticed the green is €6 - now that really is expensive. Here I buy 3 lbs for $10. Have you eaten white Denise? I love European markets.
I have eaten white asparagus. The soup I had on this last trip was all made with white. I made some yesterday, but had to use the green. The white is grown in the dark, so no chlorophyll. The white would be about $4.00 for 1 1/2 lbs if my math is correct. I paid 1.49/lb yesterday.
Both my husband and I love asparagus, but not the white. Green, check. Purple (yes, there is a purple variety), check. I would have been wishing for a motel room with a kitchen. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

DeleteNice loking display of them. Very tempting to buy some.

The green looked especially good. Never saw any as large as the white ones before.
DeleteYou were thinking of Jo when you took this photo:) it's a great photo with the colours but I would never be in this area as I am not an asparagus fan
ReplyDeleteYes, I was thinking of her!
DeleteAsparagus is just about my favorite vegetable! But, I couldn't bring myself to pay $4.99 a pound for it in the store yesterday. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't pay that much either! I've only seen it that high here in the winter.
