The Top Five Worst Movies I've Ever Seen

The other night I watched the movie 'The Artist'.  I have absolutely no idea how this movie won ANY awards.  Because it was in black and white?  Because only a few words were uttered?  It certainly wasn't because the movie itself and the actors had no good competition for the honors.

Yet, I was so bored that 30 minutes into the movie I fell asleep.  At 6:30 in the evening.  While I went back and watched the 20 minutes I missed, it was 20 minutes of wasted time.

My son had asked me if the movie was any good.  I had yet to watch it.  Now I can honestly say that 'No, it wasn't good'.

Granted I enjoyed the last few minutes of tap-dancing.  Maybe they should have done that for 90 minutes.  A friend wondered why they bothered to make a remake of 'A Star is Born'.  Good question.

About an hour into the movie I was thinking that someone should just shoot me and put me out of my misery.  Then the male lead got a gun and I had to laugh when he contemplated suicide.  That was when I started thinking about some other movies I saw which I absolutely hated.

I have rated over 1400 movies on Netflix.  The great majority have three stars with some four and five star ratings.  But it is the ones that I gave one star to that make me shake my head.  Some of these movies have one several awards.  So, without further ado, here are my top five worst movies of all time with apologies to those of you who actually liked them.  After all, this is just my opinion.

In no particular order since they all stunk.

The English Patient (1996)  I would have walked out but I went with someone.  If you have not seen the Seinfeld episode dealing with this movie, watch it and know that I feel just like Elaine did.

Lost in Translation (2003)  'Lost' is the operative word here.

Moulin Rouge (2001) I don't think I sat through more than 30 minutes of this one.  A friend said it took him three days to finish it.  Why bother?

Scent of a Woman (1992)  I know some think of this as great, one of my sons included.  I am not in that group.

Sideways (2004)  Watching two disturbed individuals drink for two hours is not my idea of a good movie.

So, what supposedly great movies have you seen and then scratched your head wondering what you missed?

  1. I haven't seen all of these movies, but am with you on "lost in Translation." I was definitely lost at this movie. I didn't see "The Artist" because I didn't think I would like it. Most people I know saw it and liked it, but I don't especially like mostly silent movies and happily skipped it.

  2. If you want to watch a good show you should watch the last board meeting. More entertaining than any movie I have ever seen. The only problem is the length. I am only up to the 3rd hour. The highlight so far has been when Teri said I will not be supplying the overall rate of return of the Townships investments. I must say there are many enjoyable moments I am looking forward to the last hour and a half.
