June 1, 1969 Barcelona, Spain

Back in Barcelona.  Today we went to the bullfights.   Another memory that stays with me along with the many pictures I took.  I recorded that we saw one fight Portuguese style and five fights Spanish style.  I have no idea what that means unless I Google it.

During the last fight it started to rain and when we left the arena we got soaked.  A dry off and change and we went to spend the evening watching flamenco dancing.  I was not impressed apparently.

I recorded that as we enter our second month of travel, we have two months to go before returning home.  Tomorrow morning we board the train for the Spanish border and onto France.

Expenses today total $8.13.

    1. I agree. Once is enough. But if you go to Spain, you must see at least one. We met some young women who were going to go to the running of the bulls. No thank you.

  2. I never saw a bull fight and would never do so Denise, totally against it. Surprised you went.

  3. If I'm not mistaken, the Spanish kill the bull and the Portuguese do not. Personally, I couldn't watch any animal getting killed, but I understand it is part of Spanish culture. It would give me nightmares, though. It didn't bother you, Denise?

    1. No it didn't. It is quite the art and the bulls are used for food, so it is not like they are wasted. The bull has the advantage and sometimes it is spared to fight another day. I'd rather watch a bullfight before watching boxing.

    2. It is still, in my opinion, cruelty to animals. Yes, I am probably being hypocritical, but I still could not watch it.

    3. Have to agree with Jo on this. While I understand the art and cultural significance, I couldn't watch. Not a fan of boxing either.

  4. I know the Spanish kill their bulls and the Portuguese don't but I am not sure I would go and see it even though I love red meat:) The meat must be well done though...no red...ick. If I was younger, I could see myself at the running of the bulls and possibly stupid enough to do it because I was quite stupid back in the day.

    1. I like my beef medium rare on the few occasions that I eat it. Probably my least favorite meat.

  5. I don't think seeing a bullfight is something I want to do.

  6. I think I would have to see a bull fight if I was in the area where they had them. Not sure how I would react to it, but would want to experience it. Did you ever get tired of traveling and want to cut your traveling short?

    1. When in Rome... Yes, we felt it was something we wanted to do since we were there. Those bulls had a better chance of survival than the chickens and rabbits my parents raised.
I don't think we ever got tired and considered coming home early.
