The latest exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts not only has Monet, but also Frederic Church. I'll be completely honest and say that I only know of Church's work from watching Antiques Roadshow. This video link is rather impressive. Wish I had something like that in my basement.
Anyway, here are some pics from the exhibit which runs through January 15:
Just beautiful and I know of Church who has this romantic view like Friedrich and others fro: this time. I love that one paintingof the adobe village in the rocks.
ReplyDeletePetra? These are all paintings from his Middle Eastern travels.
DeleteThe use of light in these pictures is amazing. I hope to be able to visit the Olana State Historic Site (where Church lived) one day - I have overlooked a lot of the historic treasures of the Hudson Valley in my home state, somehow. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWe saw a video on Olana. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Lucky you when you go.
DeleteThey aren't exactly all Middle Eastern one is definitely of the Parthenon in Athens. Never heard of him before, but do like the paintings.
ReplyDeleteIt was called his middle eastern tour, but he also went to Italy and Greece.
DeleteBeautiful pix. I love galleries. Especially the National Art Gallery in DC. Church's subject matter really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of the paintings in the combined exhibit are on loan from the National Gallery.
