Here is my weekly update of what is happening in my garden. Deer damage. My regular followers know how much I hate the animals that destroy my garden. Rats on hooves are only cute to Bambi lovers. You may think I am cruel, but having had two friends who acquired Lyme disease from deer, I can tell you that they scare the crap out of me. I have already sprayed the front twice, but this is what I am seeing - chewed up plants and it is only April:
Hostas and many daylilies with new growth eaten to the ground.
Columbine struggling to produce flower shoots
I haven't seen any rabbits yet, but a neighbor was laughing about the deer. I find no humor in it and I guess this year I will move all of these plants to the back fenced area.
I do have my lovely bleeding heart which is not a desirable food source:
Many shrubs look like they will start blooming this week. Meanwhile, I will continue the fight.
I've seen deer in my neighborhood, they. Were gone for decades but recently returned. No damage to anything, though. Yet.
ReplyDeleteI've been here 45 years and the deer showed up in my area about 20 years ago. We now have ten or more at a time walking down the street. They are voracious.
DeleteContinue the good fight! Very glad we don't have deer in our town. The rabbits are bad enough.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Bambi and Thumper making a meal...more Bambi as Thumper have not arrived yet. I hope you can find plants they don't like formyour front yard
ReplyDeleteYou must get so frustrated Denise. Of course I am a Bambi lover but I don't have your problems and would probably hate them just as much as you do. Maybe you should have a dog, a deerhound perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI live in a community where you can be fined for letting your dog run. Meanwhile, deer and rabbits eat all the plants, geese pollute the lakes and beaches, and swans attack swimmers.
