On several occasions I have thought it would be fun to blog everyday about whatever food is being celebrated. There is an entire calendar for these events and I have mentioned a few in the past, like National Cheesecake Day which falls on July 30 this year.
Today is National Chocolate Cake Day. There was a time when chocolate was my very favorite flavor. While I still love it, I often opt for something else, often lemon. But put a piece of dark chocolate anything in front of me and I can't resist.
I would love to make a cake today, but as my kids are off on vacation, I would have to eat it all by myself. Not that I couldn't accomplish the task. I do have some recipes for chocolate cake in a mug - for one- so that may be my dessert this evening.
I looked at all of my Pinterest pins and there are several cakes I want to make, especially a couple of flourless varieties. If you are looking for recipes, you can check some out at these links:

One of my favorite chocolate desserts is a chocolate cake and pumpkin mousse. Alas, I've never put the recipe on my computer. It is made with chocolate chiffon cake. The pumpkin mousse is great all on its own, and the cake is a great treat at Thanksgiving.
Are you a chocolate fan? Dark or milk? What is your favorite flavor?
I'm with you are forgoing chocolate in favor of lemon. However, I still love chocolate in the form of Lindor Truffles!!
ReplyDeleteA local candy company, Sander's, makes delicious dark chocolate sea salt caramels. Love em.
DeleteDark chocolate candy is my favorite, especially with nuts or coconut. I even loved dark chocolate as a child, when it was relatively hard to get (if you don't count unsweetened baking chocolate, which isn't the same) except for Mounds and York Peppermint Patties. ReplyDeleteYou named two of my favorite candies when I was young.
DeleteAny chocolate.....mmmmmmm chocolate:) I do love dark chocolate with orange or cranberry....yumm.
ReplyDeleteI follow another blog that does include what the food of the day is and includes a recipe. Unfortunately, I read that blog first thing in the morning when I'm hungry :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE chocolate but I'm not much of a cake lover. Give me a bar of chocolate though and I will be very happy :)
betty
Actually, I am not much of a cake eater either. I prefer pies and composed desserts. OTOH, I would not ever pass up a piece of carrot cake.
DeleteWell, Denise, I just returned from Switzerland with a suitcase full of chocolate! Mostly to give away, though, as, like you, my tastes have changed. (Creme brûlée for me!)
ReplyDeleteA square of chocolate seems to suit me now.
Your cake looks wonderful!
When I was in Switzerland I was shocked at the price for chocolate that I can buy here cheaper. Why is Lindt so expensive there? I did have some very good milk chocolate there made by Cailler.
DeleteOoh. Looks good. I far prefer National Chocolate Cake Day to the newly proclaimed Day of Patriotic Devotion.
ReplyDeleteAs they say, 'Gag me with a spoon.' And let me eat cake.
DeleteI'm a chocoholic Denise, love it in virtually any form. I particularly like volcano desserts I made a chocolate cake to share with bowling friends at Christmas and one of the women said if she were younger she would call it her PMS cake.
ReplyDeleteI also know that you like milk chocolate. I do like lava cakes. Have a pinterest board for those too. I have a recipe for one made in the crock pot which my kids enjoy. BTW, I made the Portuguese chicken last night and it was very good.
DeleteIt's been a long time since I had chocolate piece of cake.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
I am not sure when I last had some plain chocolate layer cake. I only bake for the holidays for the most part.
