N: Narnia and National Cherry Festival

I own the complete Chronicles of Narnia, but I also have an illustrated version of the first book which I bought when my children were young.  I am not a religious person, but I find the allegory quite fascinating.  The story behind the writing of the novels is even more intriguing.

C.S. Lewis was a Christian who became an atheist at 15 and later returned to Christianity as a result of his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien.  He started writing the stories in 1939 when he took in three children evacuated from London at the start of World War II.  After the war the books were published and have become classics.  Here is the trailer for the 2005 movie.

National Cherry Festival, Traverse City
I have made many trips to Traverse City, but I have never gone to the National Cherry Festival.  If you are interested in going when the festival is not happening, like in the fall, I highly recommend planning a trip to visit the various wineries.  I've used the city as my base of operations for day-long trips out on the peninsulas.

The letter N is another opportunity to remind you of the 100th Anniversary of the National Parks Service, preserving Nature for all of us to enjoy.

  1. I love fantasy and fairy tales and for some reason I have never read the books nor have seen the movies. This place sounds like a nice trip. I live in wine country...there are so many in my area I've lost count.

  3. I love Narnia and also have all the books and all the movies up to now. Often reread or review. Enjoy them so much.

I also occasionally visit the wine country where Birgit lives (see above) lots of good wines.

  4. Considering that I found the Lord of the Ring books while in college, I've never read any of the Narnia books or seen any of the movies. But I have seen a cherry blossom festival - in Macon, Georgia. Such beautiful trees. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  6. The movie based on those books was on last weekend and I watched a little of it. It came out at a time when I had a lot going on, so I didn't pay much attention to it.

  7. Ah, Narnia. This is YA fantasy at it's best, though no one called it that back when Lewis wrote the series. Thanks for the travel recommendation. If you ever find yourself in Washington State in summertime, be sure to try some Rainier cherries.

  9. Went here for a great all-you-can-eat buffet and they held nothing back. The food, service and mostly the staff from event venues Chicago were truly amazing. I was starving and am one of those voracious "sampling" type eaters who has to try everything in a buffet, and I couldn't make it!
