To me, nothing says "love" like the City of Paris, France. Everywhere you turn it is magical. My last trip there was in 1999, which means I need to think about a return. (Where does the time go?)
I was looking for some appropriate Valentine's Day images to post this morning and decided to raid my albums for pictures of this 'City of Love'. (One of these days I will have to sit down and scan them all in. Right.)
The symbol of Paris is surely the Eiffel Tower, built in 1889 for the World Exposition and originally meant to be dismantled at its end. Thank goodness someone nixed that idea.
See the J-254 on the tower? They were counting down the number of days until 2000. Cool, huh? The views from the tower itself are stunning. But the thing I remember most is being up there with someone's cell phone ringing and them actually answering it. Who cares who's calling when you are on the Eiffel Tower?
Of course, another great symbol of 'love' in Paris would be the Venus de Milo in the Louvre. Here we are together in the museum:
Notice the resemblance.
For those of you thinking of a trip, there is so much to see I wouldn't know where to begin. But for me, one of the highlights of the last trip was a day trip to Giverney to see Monet's home and gardens. Just hop on the train at Gare du Nord and make the trip. The home is a short bus ride away from the station. Gardens, pools and absolute beauty. For a garden nut like myself, it was heavenly.
To all my readers, a very Happy Valentine's Day.
Great post! I love Paris, too. Seeing "Gigi" shaped my vision forever. Happy Valentine's to you.
