Fall Color Like we are Supposed to Have in Michigan

Most Michigan residents like to travel around in the fall looking at the wonderful colors.  The state does a good job of promoting fall color tours.  But this year, not so much color.  It is 74 degrees F right now and the sun is shining in a crystal blue sky.

Two years ago I planted a 'Sun Valley' Maple.  I wanted some lovely color in the front yard, since most of my trees just turned yellow.  I was beginning to think I would not see color this year, but lo and behold, it has arrived despite the high temps.

Here is the tree on Friday:

And here it is today:

Our temps are supposed to drop this coming week.  I am very glad this tree at least had the chance to change before winds blow the leaves off of it.

  1. We are finally starting to see color here in Kansas. Your tree is beautiful!

  2. Unseasonably warm here on Long Island, NY too. We are supposed to reach peak color end of October/early November, but so far the change in color has been sluggish.

  3. Pretty. There's hope - we are seeing some color here and there in this sluggish (but delightfully warm) fall. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  4. Maples are always quite spectacular in the fall. Ours probably won't turn till near December.

    1. Still waiting for color in New York. I think the leaves may just drop off the trees. No cold nights to turn them.

  6. No I didn't think it would change that quickly either. We sure don't have much colour around here yet.

  7. Our maples are Norway Maples. (We have three, two of which we grew from babies deposited in the yard! :D ) They turn yellow, too. But I have one of those bushes that turns bright red. Don't know the name of it. We don't get much red here in Utah. Mostly oranges and yellows -- some beautiful LEMON yellows though. Depends on how much water we get. That's a beautiful tree.

  8. Glad you got your fall color at last. Things are a bit muted here. There's a row of 'Autumn Blaze' maples near the Lurie that are looking a bit sickly.
