Hey Ronna. Take a Lesson from Grandpa

Early in this COVID pandemic I gave up the radio, TV news, and the local newspapers.  Gradually, as things became clearer, I went back to reading the Detroit Free Press.  This morning, I saw the front page and thought 'Here we go again'.

So, it appears they are saying that the state Board of Canvassers may deadlock on certifying our Michigan election results despite the fact that Biden won by 155,629 votes.  What a couple of morons (Republicans on the Board)

As many of you know, I spent almost 30 years working for two governments.  I've seen a lot of elections.  In one, a friend running for the State House won by one vote.  We had a recount and guess what.  She still won by one vote.  In another election, a friend was way ahead in the tally as the precincts were reported.  And then the absentee ballots were counted and the tables were turned and he lost.  In neither case did we experience heart-wrenching drama and absurd claims of unfairness.

And polls are not infallible.  In Michigan in 1990, going into the final weekend of the campaign for Governor, the last poll showed Jim Blanchard, the incumbent, ahead of challenger John Engler, 54% to 40%.  Guess what.  Engler won.  And Blanchard conceded.

I have voted absentee (just like the current President) since I retired in 2008.  And now everyone in our state may request an absentee ballot.  It sure beats standing in line at the polls.  But somehow we are all fraudulent and our votes don't count?

And so all of this leads me to the two women asking that the certification be delayed and a recount of the state be performed because somehow the tally is wrong.  One of them is the granddaughter of former Governor George Romney.  I think she and other members of the Republican Party, of which I USED to be a member, have been brainwashed.  Ladies, look at the facts and use your brain to reason out what you are saying and asking.  If you have proof, show it.  Otherwise, STFU.  I add:

In a taped interview with Lou Gordon of WKBD-TV in Detroit on August 31, 1967, George Romney stated, "When I came back from Viet Nam [in November 1965], I'd just had the greatest brainwashing that anybody can get." He added that after the trip, he made a deeper study of the history of the conflict and concluded that it had been a “tragic” blunder to get U.S. troops into an Asian land war and that in fact it hadn’t been necessary to send U.S. soldiers to prevent a Chinese takeover of Southeast Asia.

We do not need a takeover of our democracy by a demagogue and his mindless sheep.

  1. As cowardly as some GOP are being, I can't help but feel there is some serious crookedness that has happened. It is not just the Trump voter fanatic affecting their decision. The Trump voter fanatic is different than the average Trump voter. This is a sad time in the United States. I've become afraid of Trump getting his way. It bodes well for no one including the Trump voter.

    1. What is happening in our country is frightening. I know a lot of Republicans who voted for Biden. The party needs to get itself together.

  2. A frightening last four years, and his years in office have exposed weaknesses in our system that need to be fixed. I doubt they will get fixed anytime soon, leaving us open to this happening again. The number of people who voted for Trump, despite everything, is what truly concerns me, along with the apparent fact that our government is running on automatic right now while Ronna runs rampant. 1. The numbers that voted for him scare me too. I thought we had free education in this country, but apparently it doesn't sink in with some.

  3. As others have pointed out is a cause for both dismay and concern that so many people voted for Trump having just witnessed four years of his systematic dismantling of the keystones of society. And many seem to follow him as though he is a messiah. His influence will outlive him I fear.

    1. I watched a documentary on Jim Jones and if you closed your eyes and listened you could have been listening to Trump and his minions.

  5. Trump was the face of the new fascism. That face is being removed. That is wonderful, but we must do much more to see that fascism doesn't just continue faceless in the next four years. Fascism reared its head here because in the 1980s and '90s, our nation's media and discourse became tabloid driven, hate became mainstream, inanity and illiteracy became admired and intelligence became demonized.
The good news from November 2020 is not just that Trump was beaten, but that Fair Fight, the anti-suppression movement launched by Stacey Abrams in Georgia was what brought him down. The Democratic Party regulars, funders and pundits would have taken the party to another defeat were it not for a black woman's initiative and persistence. I'm looking into how I can support Fair Fight. That movement is the future.

    1. Thank you for your comment and your visit. I agree with your first statement 100%. I just don't understand how intelligent folks don't see that. All of his supporters cannot be low IQ individuals like him.
Just watched a program on the women's movement on PBS and see how it is enveloping so many causes. We need to wake America up before we can make it truly great.
