Early in this COVID pandemic I gave up the radio, TV news, and the local newspapers. Gradually, as things became clearer, I went back to reading the Detroit Free Press. This morning, I saw the front page and thought 'Here we go again'.
So, it appears they are saying that the state Board of Canvassers may deadlock on certifying our Michigan election results despite the fact that Biden won by 155,629 votes. What a couple of morons (Republicans on the Board)
As many of you know, I spent almost 30 years working for two governments. I've seen a lot of elections. In one, a friend running for the State House won by one vote. We had a recount and guess what. She still won by one vote. In another election, a friend was way ahead in the tally as the precincts were reported. And then the absentee ballots were counted and the tables were turned and he lost. In neither case did we experience heart-wrenching drama and absurd claims of unfairness.
And polls are not infallible. In Michigan in 1990, going into the final weekend of the campaign for Governor, the last poll showed Jim Blanchard, the incumbent, ahead of challenger John Engler, 54% to 40%. Guess what. Engler won. And Blanchard conceded.
I have voted absentee (just like the current President) since I retired in 2008. And now everyone in our state may request an absentee ballot. It sure beats standing in line at the polls. But somehow we are all fraudulent and our votes don't count?
And so all of this leads me to the two women asking that the certification be delayed and a recount of the state be performed because somehow the tally is wrong. One of them is the granddaughter of former Governor George Romney. I think she and other members of the Republican Party, of which I USED to be a member, have been brainwashed. Ladies, look at the facts and use your brain to reason out what you are saying and asking. If you have proof, show it. Otherwise, STFU. I add:
In a taped interview with Lou Gordon of WKBD-TV in Detroit on August 31, 1967, George Romney stated, "When I came back from Viet Nam [in November 1965], I'd just had the greatest brainwashing that anybody can get." He added that after the trip, he made a deeper study of the history of the conflict and concluded that it had been a “tragic” blunder to get U.S. troops into an Asian land war and that in fact it hadn’t been necessary to send U.S. soldiers to prevent a Chinese takeover of Southeast Asia.
We do not need a takeover of our democracy by a demagogue and his mindless sheep.
