Hanging in There

To everyone who wished that I would get better, Thank you.  Unfortunately, good wishes do not always work and I am still dealing with this sinus thingy.  We are now trying to knock it out with steroids.  Of course, the rainy weather is not helping and my trying to clean up the yard is not helping either.  It rained nearly everyday in October and more is coming tonight.

On the upside, I have had plenty of time to read.  If I finish the book I am currently reading, 'The Good Neighbor', it will be my 100th book this year.  Well, I am a fast reader.

I got back to working on the ancestry of my ex-husband's side of the family.  Seems that the Harding clan, three brothers, came to America in September 1623 from Northamptonshire, England.  It was a Harding ancestor who married someone who descended from a Mayflower family and I have yet to find the right connection.  And then a Harding married a Hammond, but I need access to English records to find any more info on that.

And Ancestry.com let me know that they have refined by DNA results and guess what?  I am not Italian at all!!!  80% Eastern European, 8% Baltic states, 8% German and 4% French.  That is just hilarious.  We always joked about how well my mother cooked Polish food..  Well, maybe it was inborn since it seems her family likely came from Hungary and at some point moved to northeast Italy.

Halloween came and went and not one neighbor kid rang the doorbell.  I think I will not even bother next year.  Here are my two little Halloween monsters:

And this was quite the surprise at Charlie's school:
Oh no.  Two Darth Vaders!

I have been adjusting myself to standard time over the last few weeks so I am not complaining about the time change on my blog.  I just complained on other blogs, lol.

I still have more of my trip to blog about.  Next up is Taos Pueblo.  Take care.

  1. One hundred books! Well done, my friend. And I’m sorry you’re still under the weather. I hope the steroids help.
Love the pics - Halloween is really for children.
    Feel better soon!

    1. Somewhere along the way adults seem to have taken over Halloween. When I was young, anyone over 12 was too old to celebrate.

    1. Mixed up is one of the nicer phrases I've heard.

  3. Hi Denise - hope things sort themselves out health wise -not a good thing to have: take care. Love the photos of the grand-kids ... sweeties! How fun to realise where you came from ... though perhaps difficult to adjust from thinking you were Italian to being East European ... but fun - enjoy your research - cheers Hilary

    1. The health issue is just annoying. A cough that will not go away! And no definitive cause. I may not be Italian, but I still love my pasta, lol.

  6. I need to get on Ancestry and recheck my results, too. Arn and I had them done for Christmas last year. No big surprises for me. British through and through. But Arn was over 50% Irish! THAT blew his mind.

    1. Just one of those Medrol steroid packs. Doesn't seem to be doing much.

  8. Blecchhh...I know sinus infections and they are horrible. One was very nasty so my hubby put hot water in a bowl with a big spoonful of Vicks vapour Rub in the water and I stood over it with a towel around my head and breathed in the vapours. It helped and so does peppermint tea. I hope the antibiotics have helped by now. We only has 15 kids..I blame it on hump day, poor weather and the kids in the area have grown up. That is interesting about your DNA...I wonder now about my hubby. I am not sure why Ancestry is that far off with you from Italian and now, Eastern European?? I hope you get more info on your ex's family history.

    1. Oh, Ancestry never thought I was any thing more than a smidgen of Italian. Now, even that is gone. It's just that the family lived in Italy. Like immigrants I guess, lol. Meds don't seem to be helping. My sinuses seem fine but I can't get rid of the cough.

    1. Still coughing. A friend told me today it took her two months to get rid of her cough. Ugh. The Good Neighbor was very enjoyable. It is a biography of Fred Rogers. I plan to do a post about the 100 books I've read so far this year.
