June 4, 1969 On the Rails Again

You may remember that Shar and I met a woman in Spain who suggested that we make up some time by skipping Genoa and Milan,  So today we leave on the train for a ten and one-half hour journey to Venice, Italy.  We are traveling during the day so we do get to see the countryside.

We are staying at the Hotel Florida, 106 Calle Priuli.  We had dinner and went to bed.  Oh, you can still get a room here for about $120 a night.

We spent $10.35.

BTW, my Mother's family is from a small town north of Venice called Cordenons.  I mentioned in a previous post that my DNA indicates very little Italian DNA and my guess is that the ancestors were the Hungarians and Czechs who settled this region, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.  Cordenons became part of Italy in 1866.

Venice is the closest I will ever get to Cordenons, though relatives still live there.

This photo of the Grand Canal hangs in my powder room.

    1. I would love to see it in the sunshine. Not sure I will get back to Italy anytime soon. That being said, my 84 year old cousin went back this April so you never know. But since she has a daughter living in Bristol and a son in Paris, she travels back and forth quite a bit.
