We arrived here at noon and checked into the Hotel Pensione Elite, Via Francesco Crispi, 49. Between the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain we are well-located.
Our first stop is the American Express office to pick up mail. We are behind on our schedule - again. Went back to the room to answer letters and then back to AE to cash some checks. Other than what we saw from the train and our walking around, there is no sightseeing today.
Meals are included so we are just sitting in hotel room 'starving' until our 7:00 dinner.
I never realized until I started writing this up how much time was spent riding on the train.
Expenses today are $7.35.
That conjures up a picture from books I used to read where the AE offices were always full of young Americans getting mail from home. I guess Europe was a long way away for you.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how times have changed? Could anyone back then imagine being instantly available whereever they were? Cellphone, text, email?
DeleteHow true, didn't think of that. I was thinking similar thoughts the other day about how things have changed since the advent of computers.
DeleteWell at least the time on the train, unless at night, you could see the scenery going by (provided you weren't napping)

DeleteWonderful location for a hotel! I haven't heard of any that include dinner in the price. Good deal. Looking forward to the next post.
ReplyDeleteUsually we stayed in pensionnes that included meals. They were a step up from hostels. Doubt that these same hotels still include meals.
DeleteWhen I'm away I have no mail, no newspapers and the mobile phone is for emergencies only! Train travel is time consuming which I why I like to travel overnight where possible.
ReplyDeleteWe traveled overnight until we got to Italy. I am not sure why we changed to daytime. I never use my phone in Europe, but I do check my email.
