The Scene of the Crime with Photos

The last thing I expect to see when I look out of my back window is what appears to be a massacre.  What does this look like to you?

I was baffled until I remembered a post at Garden in a City regarding a certain four-legged creature and some berries.  Sure enough, here was the critter:
And here is the Cranberry viburnum:
The snow is all melted, so the crime scene evidence has been definitely tampered with by Mother Nature.  Guess she takes care of her own.

  1. Good to know that the snow has melted this time around and that the squirrel got a meal from the berries!

    1. Obviously the berries are not quite ripe or they wouldn't all be laying on the ground.

  2. OH no, I first thought...just today I saw a video of a mountain lion on someones porch - the security camera showed the lion, dragging a bloody deer away - Pretty hard to hide the evidence in snow!

    1. When I saw it I thought that some small critter had been killed by a slightly larger critter. Not unusual around here. I've had to deal with leftovers from coyotes and hawks.

  3. Whew! It did look pretty grim. Today, walking back from a lunch visit to our local indie bookstore (going out of business) I passed a newly killed pigeon (we have peregrine falcons in downtown Binghamton) - happy there was no snow around. And no, I didn't take a picture for my blog! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  7. I'm thinking that a hawk got a little bird but...this is funny. The squirrel knows what it likes.
