Cyber Monday

It is no big secret that I am not a shopper.  Every week I receive coupons in the mail and online. Most of them end up in the trash.  $5 off.  $10 off.  Free Shipping.  Buy one get one free.  I could go on and on.  The problem is, you have to spend money to save a few dollars, and unless I really need something I am not about to just 'shop'.  And if I do need it, it is just easier to pay the price at the current rate.  At least for me.

Today is 'Cyber Monday'.  I've been getting emails since last week.  Today I was bombarded with them.  I heard on the radio this morning that retailers are expecting a banner year for holiday shopping.  I admit to having done a bit of it myself.  But I never know what to buy, so checks will again be written.  I am not sure if I will even bother to read the emails I have in the inbox.

I admit that I did take advantage of one offer.  I ordered a new Kindle Fire for myself from Amazon.  I 'decommissioned' the first Kindle I had (I can't believe how heavy it is).  The one I am currently using will be loaded just with Charlie's apps.  Mostly about dinosaurs and trains.  He loves doing the puzzles and even tries to do the spelling apps, though I am never sure if he actually knows how to spell the words or was just lucky.

I do know some folks who feel they must use every coupon because they are saving money.  I've seen stories on TV of women who go 'coupon crazy'.  And I had a friend whose husband would stock up on anything and everything if it was on sale.  When he retired and started doing the grocery shopping, it was a real nightmare.

So how about you?  Black Friday shopper?  Shop local shopper?  Cyber Monday shopper?  Or just all around 'I got a coupon or it's on sale shopper?  Or are you like me and only shop when you actually need to buy something?

  1. I have been swearing for a week about first Black Friday emails and secondly Cyber Monday. I too have been bombarded with them. I am like you, I shop when I want something. If I'm lucky there might be a discount, but probably not. Sales of any kind do not interest me and never have.

  2. Haven't gotten a lot of coupons for Cyber Monday, but maybe that's because I'm not a shopper too :) I am only buying gifts for the little ones this Christmas, so it will be an easy shopping adventure. I figure a few hours one morning and I'll be done :) I only shop when I need something. Otherwise, I try to stay out of stores myself :)

  3. Hi Denise - I've been too busy lately, to even notice. In the past I have always enjoyed cyber Monday - I order a lot online anyway especially if there is free shipping. I can't stand shopping and the crowds this time of year. I tend to throw my coupons out, too. When I wasa young mommy, I was really into couponing. I think I burnt myself out.

  4. I am not a shopper either. That is why I am so in love with our new online grocery shopping here. I just give the kids Visa gift cards and then take them shopping (my time with them). They love to get what they want! And I like to see how they spend the money!! I didn't get very many emails this year. It is probably because I unsubscibed to a lot of emails!

    1. I've also unsubscribed to a lot of companies, but I swear they keep sending the same email over and over. I delete one and a new one pops up.

  5. I'm with you, Denise. If there's a sale for what I need, then great. If not, I will still look around for the best price, but buy it anyway. ☺ Otherwise, why shop? We needed a new microwave and toaster oven and did score big discounts last week. Even Canada gets involved in "Black Friday Week"sales now. All in all, online shopping is much easier and many places offer free shipping. Congrats on the new Kindle!

  6. Although I will certainly take advantage of a sale IF it's on an item I already want, many times I choose to pay whatever the amount is just so I don't have to go through the hassle of searching for a better deal. I was surprised to read that Black Friday didn't bring the usual crazy crowds to the local malls, but I think I will continue to stay home next year too.

  7. We have never done Black Friday shopping. I hate shopping, traffic, and crowds in that order. I do like to buy most things online, though used book stores, good delis, and produce markets can be fun.

  8. I love grocery shopping, and am bad to buy lots of what's on sale, but I cook a lot, and take food to people fairly often, so I don't feel too bad about all of the grocery shopping.

I tried Black Friday shopping once, and swore NEVER again. I've stuck to that for well over 10 years.

I do most of my shopping, Christmas and just regular shopping, online. I'm not a big fan of crowds, and it seems like you have a lot more choices online. Plus, you can shop in your pajamas! I did some online Black Friday shopping, and a little Cyber Monday shopping, though part of that was just regular shopping to get some of the better deals on stuff I needed to buy anyway.
