Bitter Sweet - More Chocolate Please

I love bittersweet chocolate.  I can pretty much pass on milk chocolate unless it is the Swiss variety made with real milk by Cailler.  But this exhibit was about drinking chocolate.  So, let's look at its path.
Cocoa trees grow in South America.  The Maya and Aztecs are the first to make a drink from them. The Spanish explorers bring the beans across the ocean in the 1500's.
Here is a breakfast set:
.I remember my first trip to Paris in 1969.  We stayed at a pensionne and they served hot cocoa every morning.  Cocoa, croissants and cheese for breakfast.  Yum.
Here is the full tree with cups and saucers:
And then there were these chocolate trees spread around the museum:

What an idea for a Christmas tree!  All chocolate!
Here are a couple of my chocolate pots:
Austrian China
French Limoges
Of course you like chocolate, but what kind do you prefer?  I tasted a new Hershey's kiss at Sam's Club yesterday.  It was filled with a hazelnut crunch.  Quite good.

  1. I am a milk chocolate baby but Matt likes the dark stuff. I have always been a chocolate lover but never liked hot chocolate until it was made for me in the bowling alley, without milk, and I now enjoy it. Actually I have come across quite a few people who don't like chocolate, weird but true. I agree the hazelnut kisses are good but I still choose the plain. We cannot get the dark chocolate kisses up here. Now I want a chocolate tree.

    1. I thought of you when I sampled that Hershey's kiss cause I know you like them. Not sure I've ever met anyone who didn't like chocolate - at all. I admit that I had some Mexican hot chocolate once and it is just too rich for me. They served a very good French hot chocolate at the exhibit with a strong taste of clove.

  2. Hard to say what kind of chocolate I like better than any other. I like dark and milk chocolate both. I especially like chocolate with hazelnuts or almonds or raisins or other dried fruit - oh, chocolate covered apricots!

  3. I love chocolate and I want to dive into that chocolate tree:) I lean towards dark chocolate but Lindor chocolates are just creamy and melting in your mouth...better than sex....almost:)

  4. I'm definitely a dark chocolate fan. It's really good with fruit too, like raisins or dried cranberries. And then there's chocolate amaretto cheesecake...

  5. I like milk chocolate. Hershey kisses and Hershey chocolate bars are my favorite. I do not care for white chocolate at all :)

    1. White chocolate is not really 'chocolate'. It has no cocoa in it at all. My mother loved Hershey's but it has never been a favorite of mine.

  6. What a fascinating exhibit and I love those chocolate trees! I prefer dark chocolate myself, although I do have a fondness for Hershey's.

    1. All I could think about when I saw them was 'what a waste of good chocolate'.
