The Invasion by Creepy Crawly Things

I saw this bug on my screen outside.  I did a Google search and learned that it is a Western Conifer Seed Bug.

Is this guy creepy or what?  According to the article, I now have to worry that this pest will invade my home for the winter.  Yuck.

This is not some small insignificant bug.  It is nearly one-inch long with antennae.  So now along with local rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, deer, raccoons, skunks, possums and everything else, I have to be on the watch for these.

We also have a Canadian geese problem in the neighborhood, but fortunately I have not had them in my yard.  When you go for a walk, you have to watch out for the poop all over the roads.  And parking your car in the drive or street is not a great idea either.

Earlier this season I had wasps all over my pines out front.  Apparently they arrived to suck the nectar from the pines.  Since I am highly allergic to wasps and bees, I had someone come out to see if there was a nest nearby, but he assured me there wasn't and that wasps will travel up to 1000 feet from their nest.  I just stayed clear of the area in the yard until they disappeared - once the temperatures dropped into the 50's at night.

I think I've reached a point where I've seen and dealt with all the wildlife I ever care to.  Enough already.  I'm tired.  And it's creeping me out.

  1. What a yukky looking bug. I wouldn't want that visiting me. Flies are quite bad enough thank you. Maybe you will have to move into an apartment Denise!! I do know what you mean about the Canada Goose population. A friend has a back yard sloping down to the water and her yard is covered in poop. It's a problem with a lot of the parks too. Never really hear anyone talking about it, but it grosses me out.

    1. I really do not understand the fascination with these geese. They really are dirty creatures. We've had to close beaches and parks here because of them.

  2. That is one ugly bug! I get the icks with spiders and centipedes. Canada Geese are everywhere and they stop traffic on one of our busy streets. What is nice is everyone stops and lets them cross. The poop is a problem. I heard, a couple of years ago, New York State killed a bunch of geese and then just dumped them! Goose tastes quite good even if they are a bit fatty. people in Europe often have goose for Christmas

    1. I've eaten goose and was not too fond of it. I actually had a car accident because someone slammed on their brakes to avoid hitting a goose. Like there are hundreds of them on the roads and you are idiotic enough to cause a couple thousand dollars in car damage and potential human injury to avoid hitting one?
