P is for the Piece de Resistance: Peterhof, Saint Petersburg, Russia

I think for everyone, there is one place in a city or country that they consider a 'must see'.  For me, on this particular journey, it was the Peterhof in Saint Petersburg, Russia.  It is another UNESCO site.

So, first off, here is the photo I wanted to make sure I took, standing in front of the Palace and looking down to the sea.

What a glorious view.

Below is one of my first views walking up to the "house" from the boat dock.

There were fountains everywhere.  It is hard to choose to show just a few.  Here is one with the church in the background.

The Lion Fountain:

The Adam Fountain:

The Chessboard Hill Cascade Fountain:

I hope you enjoyed these photos as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you.

Tolkien Bonus:  P is for Peregrin Took, or Pippin, a Hobbit who was one of the Companions of the Ring.  (Can't you just imagine him having his second breakfast here?)

  2. I love the dragons! And I don't usually like gold baroque ornaments, but these look somehow balanced by the water and the green :)

    1. The dragons were cool and I agree about the gold, but this is so tastefully done.

  5. What a stunning palace. I love the dragons sporting in the water. Best of the lot for me. I guess I mean sporting with the water. LOL. There were a lot of fountains weren't there. The Russians were nothing if not flamboyant.

    1. Still another palace to come. I've seen lots of fountains around the world, but these were spectacular.

  8. Oh this makes me long to visit this great palace-the gold on those statues! Are they Greek Gods? Also the stairway fountain with those gold statues-I had no idea the inner parts was the beautiful emerald green with scenes inside-what are the scenes? I love fountains-there is something magical and I was surprised by the dragons and how beautifully painted they are-I must show this to my hubby. I also love this scene with Pippin-so sad

    1. Not sure what the scenes are about. If I was told at the time I was there, I totally forgot. As for the statues, they were all different and I am sure they all represent different characters.

  9. More fountains than Kansas City, MO! (but lots more scenic). Seriously...could you see yourself living in that palace, seeing those views, and taking it all for granted? No, instead, we look in wonder. There's a lesson here somewhere. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
