L is for Lenin and Lubyanka

If you have been to Moscow, everyone wants to know if you went to see Lenin.  Well, I did.  Been to Madame Tussaud's?  Same thing.

So, while in Red Square you can go in to see Lenin's Tomb.  No pictures allowed inside.  Really?  Would you want one?  The line must be kept moving around the casket and it is very solemn.

Before going into the mausoleum you can view tombs of Russian leaders in Red Square.  That is the wall of the Kremlin in the background.

Moscow is not alone in honoring Lenin.  There was this statue in Saint Petersburg in front of the House of the Soviets.  This monument is part of the Historical sites of Saint Petersburg that are part of the UNESCO Heritage.
This was actually preferable to seeing a dead body.

L is also for Lubyanka, the headquarters for the KGB, which is in Moscow.  We only drove by.

Tolkien Bonus:  L is for Legolas, a Sindarin Elf who was one of the Companions of the Ring.  He became a lifelong friend to Gimli, the Dwarf.

    1. I hope you enjoy the bonuses each day. And I'd much rather look at Legolas than a dead body.

  2. I love the manner in which your zany sense of humour sneaks out sometimes, as in this line, "L is also for Lubyanka, the headquarters for the KGB, which is in Moscow. We only drove by."
Best not to take any chances.

    1. Yes, I even tried to be diplomatic when I was there. When a guide asked what I think of Stalin (as we stood in front of his tomb, I said that the jury is still out. Next.

  3. Legolas rocks! Of course. I agree, I'd rather see him than a dead body. I must say, the buildings in your posts are beautiful. I really liked the yellow coloring with the reddishness of the KGB building, and its style. Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com

  4. Fun clip. I like all the rebel-rousing going on. Interesting dichotomy in your post from austere to no fear.

  5. I saw his well preserved body on TV-I had no idea-It looked like he was ready to open his eyes-really creepy. Someone should get rid of anything having to do with Stalin-psychopathic killer. I am glad you just drove by that prison-icky. Love Legolas-great clip

    1. My friend piped up about Stalin to the guide about what a killer Stalin was and I told her to "Shush" before she got sent to the gulag. They do offer tours of Lubyanka.

  6. Legolas was always one of my favorites. :) Nice clip!

I don't think I could go inside his tomb. Too creepy for me. Although I always liked learning about mummies as a kid. Go figure.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the clip. At least mummies are wrapped up in cloths not dressed in their Sunday best.
